AMEN is the only organization in Arlington that has programs dedicated to providing same-day emergency financial assistance.
Daily Emergency Fund
The Daily Emergency Fund provides same-day, one-time emergency assistance to Arlington residents who find themselves in a financial crisis. The program pays rent, medical and dental bills, prescriptions, transportation and some work-related expenses.
Every weekday except holidays, a volunteer takes calls from social workers who request assistance for their clients. The volunteer approves requests by following AMEN program criteria.
The Carter-Jenkinson Memorial Homelessness Prevention Fund provides rental and related assistance for Arlington households that are experiencing financial crises that put them at risk of becoming homeless, and whose needs are greater than the Daily Fund can accommodate. The program is named for two former AMEN Board members, Eleanor Carter and Frieda Jenkinson, who established this program.
AMEN administers the “Energy Share” program, funded by Dominion Virginia Power. This program helps qualifying Arlington households pay home heating bills up to $600, and cooling bills up to $300, per season per household. In most cases, the assistance prevents shut-off of the utility. An AMEN volunteer manages the entire program. AMEN takes the small administrative fee it receives from Dominion Virginia and puts it back into the program so that more Arlington residents receive the assistance they need.

Dress for Work Success
Dress for Work Success provides brand new, professional work attire for clients who have completed the Arlington County Employment Center’s “Arlington Works!” program, helping recipients make a smooth transition to self-sufficiency.
Security Deposit Loan Program
The Section 8 Security Deposit Loan Program provides a much-needed service to families seeking to move into federal “Section 8” rental units. These loans, for the amount of the security deposit, enable the renter who cannot afford both the first month’s rent as well as the security deposit to move into permanent housing. Repayment terms are interest-free.
